SO WHEN DO YOU STOP

When looking around on dev art I see many great pieces that have been over worked and would have been even better if the artist had stopped sooner. One of the most difficult things that I try to teach my students is when to stop. They sometimes spoil a great piece by over working. It takes time to learn that less is often more.
What I do is when I think a piece is finished I put it aside for a few days then get it out and can look at it with a fresh pair of eyes.
What do you do to help you know when a painting is finished. Do you suffer from over working your masterpieces.

DIGITAL ART VERSUS TRADITIONAL ART.
I teach art at a college here in the UK, I teach traditional art and sculpture, but I find that at the moment in my own time I am spending all my spare time doing digital art, mainly digital painting and photo manipulation. I am really enjoying exploring the use of computers as an art tool, but I do feel guilty for not spending time doing any trad art. My brushes are sitting in a jar staring at me now.
I do think that some of the skills that I am learning in the digital area will benifit my trad painting but I still feel guilty.
Is comp art as valid as an art form as trad?
Do you find you are in the same situation.
I hit a long dead spot with my trad painting and I have found that the digital stuff is starting to get me in the mood for trad again.

So which should I go for trad or digital??

Hi everyone. I now have two pages on DA and have decided to separate them into one page that is for photo’s and and minor photo manipulations etc and the other for major manipulations digital paintings and darker and fantacy art.
I am doing this because I know that some of my friends like the photography and others like the darker work.
Those of you that have been kind enough to add me to your watch lists could you please take a few seconds to add one or both of the following pages to you watch list so that you only get updates on the work that you are interested in. If you like both then I would love it if you add both.
I will not remove any work from my galleries but any new work will go into the gallery that it is most suited to. Sorry for the messing about but I think it needs to be done.

I find that I am entering a dark place. I have found the work of a great artist called Chad Michael Ward and also Jeffery Scott. Their work is all based on photo manipulation and looks at the dark side of life. The images are quite disturbing but at the same time have great beauty.
I have tried one or two pieces based on their style and am quite pleased with them. One of my attempts is in the title bar of my journal. Do a web search on them and check them out. Let me know what you think. Or am I way behind and you already know of them. What do you think of my first go?

SOOPER BABY Has been found on Earth by me. It happened a few nights ago and I was the first to find his travel pod in a trench in my garden. He told me that he had left his home planet of CRAYON because it was in a spiral orbit with the local sun. When his father put him into the pod he was just a small baby, unfortunately due to some strange time flux during his journey he grew to the age of 42 but then went back down again to just 8 months old.
As I learn more from him I will be posting updates on my page and journal.
Become one of his friends and collect the images of all of his adventures.

He has just said that he will be happy to answer any questions that his new friends may have. So fire away
